There are five main large islands in the northeast of the Yucatan peninsula, just in the limit of the Caribbean Sea.

The next year they discover many sea turtles making their nests in the same place, so they understand it was a wrong name about snakes; but the name was already given to the town and very well known by other surrounding towns.
As any other Mayan city and town, about 200 years after its foundation, this small town was abandoned, too.

Almost 2000 years later, in 1970, the Mexican government decided to re-found the city, to give order to the huge international tourism, the island was receiving. The name of Kahan-kun, becomes to a more Spanish alike word: Cancún.

Cancun is a natural island, in the densest tropical jungle of the Caribbean; among of plenty ancient Mayan cities in ruins. It is also facing the world's second largest coral reef, named the world's best place to swim and scuba dive. Surrounded by hundreds of cenotes, it is among the world's largest chain of underground rivers where you can scuba dive trough or swim.
